Broominator Stripe Kit Review: Double Striping Setup on a Toro Titan Max
Rating: 5/5 Stars
If you are looking to take your lawn stripes to the next level, the Broominator is an absolute game-changer. I run a dual-striping kit system on my Toro Titan Max Havoc Edition (60" deck), combining a Big League Lawns Checkmate (48") with the Broominator, and the combined results speak for themselves.
The Rig & Custom Modifications
Because the Titan Max sits higher off the ground than a standard mower, getting the Broominator level required a few custom tweaks:
Hitch Height Adjustment: I picked up a Heavy Duty Universal ATV Hitch Attachment / Trailer Hitch Adapter to drop the mounting height so the broom sits flush with the turf.
Matching the 48" Checkmate Width: I wanted the Broominator to match the exact 48" width of my Checkmate roller. To do this, I bought two 24" Grainger push broom heads and joined them together.
Reinforcing the Broom Heads: To firmly bind the two broom heads into one solid 48" unit, I installed 12Pcs Stainless Steel Mending Plates Flat Brackets / Straight Brace Brackets across both the front and back sides of the wooden broom blocks.
Eliminating Side-to-Side Shift: In the included photos, you can see where I attempted to install a U-bolt setup right at the hitch attachment point to lock everything down and stop any unwanted lateral swivel while mowing.
Honest Comparison: Big League Lawns Checkmate vs. Broominator
Having both kits mounted on the same rig gives a great side-by-side view of how they perform:
Big League Lawns Checkmate:
Pros: Unmatched convenience. You can go full speed, reverse, turn, and maneuver backward and forward without having to lift or adjust a thing.
Cons: At around $500, it is a steep investment that might be hard to justify for some homeowners.
Broominator:
Pros: The stripes are second to none. For such a simple concept, this broom lays down unbelievably dark, crisp, high-contrast stripes while simultaneously sweeping up dead grass clippings as you cut.
Cons: Backing up requires pulling the parachute cord to lift the broom off the ground so it doesn't dig in or bend. In my case, I've simply adapted my mowing pattern to minimize or eliminate reversing altogether.
Final Verdict
Running the Big League Lawns Checkmate directly followed by the Broominator creates the ultimate one-two punch for lawn striping. Despite the minor hassle of managing the cord when reversing, the Broominator delivers professional, stadium-grade stripes at a fraction of the cost of heavy roller systems.
If you're willing to make a few quick hardware adjustments for your specific machine setup, I highly recommend it—extremely happy with the purchase!
This is a great tool. I may need a better room and weigh it down a bit but it’s much better than nothing. I’ll make some tweaks and I’m sure it’ll be even better.

I just started using the Broominator with my 15 year old Cub Cadet and it was definitely worth it. Got some good stripes going even though we are in a severe drought in eastern NC.
It is working well. I've used it with 10lb weights on both sides. I think the stripes will be crisper when cutting height is 3.5" or 4".
My picture is with cutting height of 3".
Overall, great solution for my riding mower.

I really like my Broominator.
Installation was a breeze. Original connection rotated too much, so I had wings welded on. Very secure with no side to side rotation.
I make 3 or 4 passes around the perimeter with the Broominator up. I then let the device lay stripes like nobody’s business. In addition, I do not back up with the device down.
I love the product!

Dan from Broominator has been amazing to work with! VERY responsive to all our messages! Took us a few tweaks to getting ours to work perfectly and also just received an email that the paracord solution for raising and lowering is being modified to work better! Please support this great company! Brian and Donna Lommel
When I back up with my cub cadet rider it twist and wants to get caught causing my rear wheels to go up in the air therefore I get stuck.
I’ve tighten everything. Good concept but trying to figure out what’s going to wrong

This was my original post but since then they have reached out to me and other customers asking for feedback. Not only did they listen but they took action! Several emails were sent out and parts were sent out at no cost to make their product better.
Works great now. Takes my yard to another level. Will recommend to anyone and everyone if they are looking for something like this.

J. Sorry you’re having difficulties - our next batch mailing out has two rubber washers included to prevent sideways movement and limit bolt loosening (always improving) - I’ll mail you out two on Monday!
After trying and failing to build my own DIY striping kit, I found the Broominator—and I’m glad I did. After adding a little extra weight, I’m getting incredible stripe contrast in my yard, comparable to products that sell for $400 or more. The quality of the stripes is unreal, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase!
I usually dont write reviews. But i am a weekend lawn warrior. Lol I have a 48 inch Zero turn. I wanted a stripe kit for a very long time , But i was not going to spend close to 400 usd. On a stripe kit. I have a boat and the same rollers used by other brands. These same rollers cost 7.00 usd at the boat shop.
The Broominator fit my budget. I purchased the setup. But i was still skeptical. Because it was new . I received the package. I was honestly expecting a cheap metal frame. But it was very solid. And included all of the hardware even screws to attach the broom. The instructions were good. It took 10 minutes to assemble and attach to the mower. I tried it without the weight. The weights definitely make a huge diffence in the contrast. Overall i give it a 5 out of 5. Great product. At the right price point.
It would be nice if the product came with a wood broom. Did you know Menards only carries plastic push brooms? Would have been nice not to have to drive all over town to complete this. Also, and this is more my fault for not looking, I don't have a hitch on my new Cub Cadet and had to invest in that as well.
Store owner replied:
Eric,
I'm sorry you had difficulty sourcing a broom! I usually recommend a boardwalk broom from Amazon that has been historically around $26. Hopefully this helps in the future; though your broom should last a few seasons!

Only used it once. Install was a breeze but got to figure out the weight better. Also found a bit of a struggle when weights were on the lift it off the ground to turn around which was a pain. That area could be improved but no other complaints.

We have mailed you the reverse bracket we have been testing to make the Broominator hands free for reverse! Please check your email shortly for instructions on how to install!
Tried it out for the first time today, worked just like advertised. Easy to assemble as well.
I purchased this with high hopes of a stunning lawn. While it "kind of" works, it is nothing like the pull behind roller machines.
When putting together the machine they indicated the need for weights to add ballast to the broom. That's a great idea, but you can lift it with the goofy rope they provide. I have to go back and manually lift it up EVERY time I have to back up at all. I forgot to lift one time and guess what happened? Yup, I bent the heck out of everything.
It is a great idea, but it isn't what it was advertised to be. I actually am going to remove it as anytime I am mowing around stuff and DON'T want to use it, when I get near anything with my zero turn, it catches on bushes and falls down and then I back up and it catches and bends worse.
I tried to develop a foot bar to raise it for backing and it just won't work. I am tired, sick and tired, and $180 poorer than I was before I had this. I am NOT a fan. It had some potential, but the design just does NOT work for a zero-turn machine.
Truth of the whole thing is that I am mad I spent so much money on this damn thing when I could have spent another $150 and had a roller machine that moves with the mower better.
Any possible refund if I send it back? Husker
This is the first opportunity I've had to try it out because of the rain and storms.
I cut my lawn at 4" and really didn't see much difference in using the Broom & Stripe vs the normal lines I get after mowing with my Zero-Turn.
I use several tow-behind attachments that connect to the rear of my mower with a magnetic drop pin, making it convenient when swapping them.
The task of bolting on the Broom & Strips every time I cut my lawn may end up being more trouble than it's worth, and I'm not sure that even after you come out with an upgraded attachment, it's going to be worth the hassle of putting it on and taking it off.
If it wasn't for purchasing a broom, a heavy-duty "U" Bolt and the hassle of taking it apart, I would package it up and send it back for a refund.
I'm sorry I couldn't give it a better review, but I have to be honest about the results.
Store owner replied:
Hey,
We appreciate you taking the time to share your honest feedback regarding the Broominator — Turn Any Mower Into a Striping Machine, especially after getting the chance to use it. We understand your concerns about not seeing a significant difference in striping with your Zero-Turn mower and the inconvenience of the attachment process. Your experience with the installation and removal highlights an important area for us to consider for future improvements.
If there were to be a second hole where you could attach your other equipment would this help?
If so let me know and I'll have one made up this way!

In concept it’s great, in reality it’s difficult. Especially when backing it gets caught and almost binds up. I have to get off my mower remove the weights flip it up and then back up. Then go back flip it down, add weights back on and continue to mow. Going forward it’s awesome, backing is impossible.
